Creating monstrosities for charity, gaming, and because I can

People, I have created the world's most terrifying, gut-wrenching, Cthulu wetting his bed-inducing pumpkin carving. Fear not, I have video.

This is, of course, part of a contest for TheSpeedGamers Resident Evil 48 hour marathon to benefit the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation on October 30th at 6pm CST. You'll definitely want to stop by this year because not only is Phil going to be dressed as Pedowolf Jacob Black from Twilight, but the one and only Capcom is assisting the marathon and giving out all sorts of juicy prizes, such as copies of Resident Evil games autographed by the developers.

Organization XIII too cool for fire safety

Something has been bothering me about Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. A particular Heartless type called Scarlet Tango has the ability to hit you with fireballs that, quoth the Enemy Profiles, "can ignite you, which will gradually sap your HP for as long as it lasts."Stop drop and roll. Oh wait you can't.

So my reaction to this was to use my Dodgeroll ability to perform Smokey the Bear's favourite maneuver: stop, drop and roll.

Well guess what.

It does nothing.

WHY?! It should work. Did the designers just not think of this or what? Is the fire some sort of eternal flame that burns like the passion Gackt feels for bad dance moves?

TF2 PropHunt: Manly gigglefest

A mod for Team Fortress 2 that spawns the blue team as Pyros and the red team as random props. I want to play this so bad. There is a plethora of fascinating videos on the Tube of You showing off this mod, but I had to choose one.

More info, because you know you want it.

Voice acting in games

Why does it typically suck? Abysmal voice acting is generally the biggest complaint I hear about games. Why does it have to be this way? Developers: when your game is completely solid in all other aspects, why must you ruin the atmosphere you've so skillfully crafted by hiring mediocre actors to drone over your scripts? I'm guessing money might be a big reason, but it's not even so much that you need to hire Hollywood A-listers to do the job, all I'm asking is for some voices of people who actually seem to care about the game. Is that so hard? If your actors don't care if their characters live, die, suffer, or are happy, then why should we? Would it be that difficult to hire somebody who was enthusiastic about playing the part? I'm not even asking for superb voice acting, I'm just asking for some sort of emotion in the voices. Some effort. Some sincerity. If the actor is enjoying doing the part, chances are we'll enjoy hearing them, even if they're not the best in the business.

So, readers, let's hear your thoughts on this. What are some games that had award-worthy voice overs? And what are some games whose voice overs made you cringe?

The wonders of an entertainment shop

Today I went after work to buy Scribblenauts and I saw two interesting things.

The first was a guy who looked exactly like Beat from Twewy. He bought the other copy of Scribblenauts (there were only two), so that made him even cooler.

The second was a goth couple trying to decide which games to rent for their Wii. I was going to photoshop some goth-waggling for lulz, but nothing I do seems to live up to the image in my mind.

Lulz, stereotyping.

Level grinding in KH Re:CoM

It makes Dawson cry.
Level grinding in Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories kills me inside.
It's okay, Dawson. Just few more hours of killing Air Soldiers and you'll be leveled enough to fight Vexen. Again.

Joy.

New The Last Guardian content

A new video is up here with a behind-the-scenes look at Ueda (<3) discussing The Last Guardian. He talks about the griffin-creature and how imaginary elements were used to create realism. It's pretty fascinating, plus there's another short trailer at the end. Go watch now, plox.

Thanks for the tip, Scott and Joku.
